What's New in StudyThai 2026: 14 Updates You Might Have Missed
If you signed up to StudyThai in early 2026 and only check back occasionally, you've already missed an entire product wave. Over the past 5 months (January through May 2026) we shipped 14 updates worth coming back for — ranging from foundational polish (dark mode, native mobile) to brand-new learning modes (photo recognition, long-term AI memory, AI reading review).
This is the mid-year recap, sorted by impact, with direct entry points to try each one.

P0: The 3 Features You Should Absolutely Try
1. 📸 Cap Snap: Point Camera at Anything, Get a Thai Flashcard (April)
This is the biggest product shipment of H1 2026. In the mobile app dashboard, tap the camera icon top-right → frame any object in the stamp-shaped viewfinder → press shutter → AI (Gemini 3 Flash vision) reads the image directly and returns Thai script + IPA + classifier + example + TTS → one tap to save into your SRS review queue.
Why you need to try it: Solves the universal "I see this object but don't know the Thai word" pain point that every learner has hit. Accuracy went from ~65% in v1.5.5 to ~95% today. Every photo is auto-cropped into a "stamp" shape, and your saved snaps form a personal Thai vocabulary album.
Entry: StudyThai mobile app (/download) → Dashboard → header camera icon

2. 🧠 StudyThai Memory: The AI Tutor Finally Remembers You (May)
A hidden buff for Pro users. Open /tutor → gear icon → flip the "StudyThai Memory" toggle. Now the AI tutor can read your progress, weak words, and due-for-review queue — every response is grounded in "I actually know where you are."
Why try it: Upgrades the AI tutor from "generic chat" to "personalized teaching tailored to you." 5 learner tools get auto-injected into the conversation; 3 chat styles (Free / Learning / Teaching) adapt to different scenarios.
Entry: /tutor → gear → StudyThai Memory toggle (Pro only)

3. 📖 AI Reading Review Major Polish (March: Mobile + Streaming)
33 preset scenes; AI generates a 5–8 sentence Thai passage seeded with your due-for-review words + 5 comprehension questions. Pro users can additionally write custom scene prompts.
March highlights:
- Bottom-fixed mobile toolbar (fixed the scroll-loses-toolbar bug)
- Reading Assistant: highlight any text for translate / explain / examples / multi-turn Q&A
- Dual-speed TTS (0.85x + 0.65x), review words highlighted in red

4. 📚 Course V2 (ongoing rebuild)
L0–L6 (90 units) systematic course restructure. Adds an interleaved learning flow (explanation ↔ practice alternating, not "lecture first then drill") — closer to a real classroom rhythm. L0 is fully free.
Entry: /course
5. 🎮 Consonant 2048 v1.1 (Dec 2025 → ongoing polish)
Classic 2048 mechanic + Thai's 4-class consonant system. v1.1 added revive: 1/day for free users, 1/game for Pro — a full board no longer always means game over.
Entry: /games/consonant-2048
6. 🎁 Referral System (shipped 2026-01-28)
Friend signs up: +1 day Pro. Friend buys yearly or lifetime: +30 days Pro. Monthly subscriptions don't trigger rewards (important rule). Each invite code is 8 characters; each user can only be invited once.

7. 📱 Native Mobile App (ongoing)
After migrating from Flutter to Expo React Native, the mobile app gained significantly in performance, native feel, and offline capability. Cap Snap, TTS caching, and push notifications all build on this foundation. Supports iOS and Android in parallel.

8. 🌙 Dark Mode (Mobile)
Follows system theme. Every page — courses, dictionary, AI Reading — is dark-mode adapted.
9. 🔄 OTA Updates
The mobile app now ships with Expo Updates OTA. Bug fixes and small features no longer need App Store / Google Play review — typically deployed to everyone within hours.
10. 💳 Paywall Refresh (May)
The Pro subscription page got a new IAP UI with price anchoring ("save $X"), limited-time offer surfacing, and visual comparison of Pro-unlocked features.
11. 📊 PostHog + GA4 Dual Tracking
Analytics infrastructure upgrade — we can now see how different user segments interact with different features more precisely. Privacy controls unchanged, but our signal for product changes is much faster.
12. 🔤 Dictionary V2 Upgrade
Dictionary lookup now goes through the new lookup-v2 endpoint + IPA backfill across 100,000+ historical entries. Any Thai word you look up returns full pronunciation + multiple senses + part of speech + example.
13. 🌏 Asia Acceleration (CDN)
Cloudflare Workers Asia + Hong Kong proxy optimization significantly improved access speed in mainland China. TTS audio uses dual CDN (R2 + OSS) for no-stutter playback in CN.
14. ✅ Drops Visual Redesign
The Drops entry point (on dashboard) got a visual upgrade — more intuitive display of daily learning goals and progress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: I'm already a Pro user — do I get access to all the new features?
A: Yes. All new features are open to Pro. Cap Snap, AI Reading Review, StudyThai Memory, etc. are auto-enabled.
Q2: Can free users use Cap Snap and AI Memory?
A: Cap Snap: free users get 3 snaps/day (Pro is unlimited). Memory is Pro-only — free users can see the toggle but it's disabled.
Q3: I don't see the camera button on dashboard (Cap Snap)?
A: Cap Snap is mobile-only. The web app doesn't have a camera entry. If you only use the web version, head to /download for iOS or Android.
Q4: How does Course V2 differ from the old courses?
A: Reorganized content architecture, added interleaved learning flow (explain ↔ practice), L0 fully free. If you previously did L1–L3 in the old format, we recommend revisiting from L0 — the experience is meaningfully different.
Q5: What's next on StudyThai's roadmap?
A: Post-mid-year focus areas: (1) mobile app offline capabilities (2) deeper AI conversation modes (closer to human teaching) (3) user-defined course content. No specific dates promised, but these are where our attention is.
Wrap-up
Five months, 14 shipments, with a single underlying narrative: evolving from "tool" to "coach" — Cap Snap is a visual vocabulary coach, Memory is a personalized conversation coach, Reading Review is a contextual reading coach. Every new feature isn't "add a button" — it's plugging a complete learning scenario into StudyThai's unified learning database (SRS, word bank, mastery).
If you signed up but haven't been back in a while, now's a good time.
